Job description: Medical Center: SH: Clinical Lab- (Full-Time, Rotating Shift) –Job Summary: The Clinical Lab Scientist 2, under the direction of the supervising manager, serves as the subject matter expert (SME) and resource for a clinical laboratory section. Organizes the work of lower level staff, performs more complex and specialized clinical lab tests, and operates all lab instruments and equipment. In addition, the position assesses the competency of staff in various assigned lab sections, and provides guidance related to the use of lab instruments, equipment, test development, and analysis to lower level staff. The Clinical Lab Scientist 2 is a clinical licensed position and the senior level classification in the Clinical Lab Scientist classification series. Performs other duties as needed.Education and Experience: Bachelors Degree in the life sciences or an equivalent field of study required. Masters Degree preferred. Four years of experience working as a clinical laboratory scientist (CLS) in a medical laboratory required.Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of medical lab standard operating procedures, types of software used, and equipment. Ability to perform basic and complex clinical lab tests and interpret and analyze data, to determine the clinical significance of esoteric test results. Able to operate and maintain advanced specialized lab equipment needed to perform all lab procedures. Must be able to articulate logical and well-founded arguments that support conclusions and exhibit excellent dexterity and analytical skills. Remain up to date with technology, testing methods, and research in a specific lab section. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.Licensures and Certifications: California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License required. American Medical Technologist (AMT) Certification, or American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification preferred.
