CANDIDATE PROFILEThe Data Scientist will spearhead the development and deployment of traditional analytic and predictive models within the utility’s secure environment. The Data Scientist will leverage sensitive internal data to create solutions and capabilities that drive operational efficiency and innovation across operational and administrative functions. The Data Scientist will identify patterns, predict outcomes, and propose and utilize data-driven capabilities (or analytics) and strategies that align with the objectives of the company, while ensuring adherence to data privacy and security.DUTIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Ensure appropriate handling of confidential business information and customer data. Ensure data privacy and IT security standards are strictly maintained and that all AI development and data handling processes comply with Entegrus policies and regulatory and ethical guidelines.
  • Undertake the acquisition and processing of large, diverse datasets, including both structured and unstructured data, including the use of data manipulation tools and techniques to prepare data for effective analysis using classical and machine learning techniques.
  • Carefully selecting the most fitting approach for specific challenges using the most appropriate technology (from traditional techniques through to model development or tuning). Conduct in-depth analysis to unearth trends, patterns, and actionable insights.
  • Design and implement tools to forecast trends and automate electrical distribution systems and devices. Apply various statistical and machine learning methodologies to dissect and understand complex data sets. Develop reports and dashboards for internal customers. Perform validation through rigorous testing to ensure reliability and effectiveness.
  • Work with the IT department to develop and manage efficient data pipelines, integrating a variety of data sources from various business systems.
  • Assist with management and recommend enhancements to existing Operational Data Stores (ODS). Collaborate with the IT department to ensure robustness, security, and efficiency. Recommend and implement improvements to data archival tools and datasets.
  • Collaborate with other departments to align data analysis and AI-driven projects with the overall business objectives. This includes explaining complex technical concepts in understandable language to stakeholders.
  • Work with the IT department to implement advanced solutions to meet overall business objectives. Recommend and implement AI technologies to produce reports and insights to help improve Entegrus’ business processes, with an initial focus on its asset management and capital expenditure programs. Additionally, ensure that analytics and AI projects align with the organization’s IT strategy and infrastructure requirements.
  • Stay up to date on the latest advancements in data storage, security and analysis through continuous learning and apply these insights to innovate and enhance the capabilities within the organization.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience: At least 3 years of experience in data science or a related field in a corporate environment, with a proven track record of developing and implementing analytical and predictive modeling solutions. Experience in the utility sector is an asset.
  • Knowledge: (1) Advanced expertise in machine learning, predictive modeling, and statistical analysis. (2) Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Scala. Familiarity with big data technologies (e.g., Hadoop, Spark). (3) Understanding of data privacy and security principles. (4) Knowledge of electric utility operations is an asset.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively. Leadership skills to drive AI initiatives and mentor team members
  • Other: Must possess a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s License and an acceptable Driver’s Abstract.

OTHER REQUIREMENTSThe typical work environment is a busy office environment.
