About the role:
A vacancy exists in the Peter Duncan Neurosciences Research Unit led by Prof. Bruce Brew for a highly motivated Research assistant or Postdoctoral scientist with appropriate knowledge and skills to join our friendly and supportive team.The Neurosciences Research Unit undertakes research into the Kynurenine Pathway of amino acid Tryptophan metabolism in several neuroinflammatory and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, HIV-dementia and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).The position holder will undertake laboratory research under the direction of the supervising scientist, involving the Kynurenine Pathway in Multiple Sclerosis utilizing adult stem cell cultures and animal studies. They will be expected to analyse data and assist the supervising scientist in aspects of the preparation of research manuscripts and at the postdoctoral level, grant applications.Diversity and Inclusion at St Vincent’s:

We are seeking a skilled and energetic Research Assistant/Postdoctoral Scientist who possess a passion for undertaking neuroscience research. The successful applicant will have a minimum of Bachelor of Science with Honours or equivalent. They will be expected to be able to perform the tasks required for the successful outcome of the research projects within the research program, and to ensure the day-to-day running of the laboratory functions are maintained at the highest standard possible. The vacancy is open to Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens who hold a valid New Zealand passport, Australian permanent residents and those non-residents deemed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to be eligible to work in Australia only. 2. Tertiary scientific qualifications (minimum of BSc, or equivalent, in biomedical field) and/or relevant experience. Appointment at postdoctoral level requires a PhD qualification.3. Biomedical research laboratory experience
4. Knowledge of data management, statistical analysis and computing skills
5.Relevant experience in rodent animal handling, experimentation and ethics, and transgenic or knockout mice.
6. Knowledge and experience with animal models of Multiple Sclerosis (MS)
7. Experience in tissue culture, flow cytometry, Western blot, immunohistological techniques and molecular biology assays.
8.
