Job description: DESCRIPTIONThe Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) team is looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Applied Scientist, to lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge algorithms and models for supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning through human feedback; with a focus across text, image, and video modalities.As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will play a critical role in driving the development of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) technologies that can handle Amazon-scale use cases and have a significant impact on our customers’ experiences.Key job responsibilities
– Collaborate with cross-functional teams of engineers, product managers, and scientists to identify and solve complex problems in GenAI
– Design and execute experiments to evaluate the performance of different algorithms and models, and iterate quickly to improve results
– Think big about the arc of development of GenAI over a multi-year horizon, and identify new opportunities to apply these technologies to solve real-world problems
– Communicate results and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences, including through presentations and written reports
– Mentor and guide junior scientists and engineers, and contribute to the overall growth and development of the teamBASIC QUALIFICATIONS– PhD, or Master’s degree and 5+ years of applied research experience
– 5+ years of building machine learning models for business application experience
– Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
– Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learningPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS– PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related field, with a focus on GenAI and reinforcement learning
– Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing algorithms and models for supervised fine-tuning and reinforcement learning through human feedback
– Strong programming skills in Python and experience with deep learning frameworks such as Tensor Flow or PyTorch
– Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to think creatively and critically about complex problems
– Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

The base pay for this position ranges from $150,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $260,000/year in our highest geographic market.
